What this tool does
It reads the Open Graph and Twitter meta tags of a page and answers two questions: what will this link look like when someone shares it, and what is missing. It previews the card on Facebook, X, LinkedIn and Google, lists the problems with an explanation, and generates the meta tag block you can paste.
The two ways to use it
- Paste a URL. The page is fetched by our server, because a browser cannot read another domain’s HTML (CORS). It uses the same daily allowance as the Website Status Checker.
- Paste HTML. Paste the
<head>or the full page and the analysis runs entirely in your browser. No server, no allowance, nothing uploaded. Useful while you are building the page.
og:title is not the title tag
They look similar and are used differently:

If you only set <title>, most networks fall back to it. That works, but it is a guess: the tab
title is written for search, and the card title for a feed. They are not always the same sentence.
The image is what decides whether anyone clicks
A card with an image is dramatically more visible than a card without one. What matters:
- Absolute URL.
og:imagemust behttps://…, not/card.png. Some scrapers resolve relative paths and some do not, and you only find out when the card is empty. - Size. 1200×630 is the safe ratio (1.91:1). Smaller images get cropped or dropped.
- Declare the size.
og:image:widthandog:image:heightlet the network reserve the space before the image loads, which avoids a card that jumps. - Reachable. If the image needs a login or blocks hotlinking, the scraper sees nothing.
twitter:card
summary_large_image gives a big image on X; summary gives a small square thumbnail next to the
text. Without twitter:card, X guesses from the og: tags — usually fine, but the result is less
predictable, which is why the checker flags it as informational rather than an error.
Privacy
When you check a URL, our server downloads the page, reads the meta tags and discards the HTML: it is never stored and never returned to you. The visitor’s IP is counted with a keyed hash (not stored in clear) for the daily allowance, exactly like Website Status.
When you paste HTML, nothing leaves your browser.
If the page you are checking is not reachable, the Website Status Checker tells you whether the server is down or whether something on the way is blocking it.
