Who is responsible
Host-Tools (https://host-tools.com) is operated by Mendo Network. You can reach us about privacy at info@mendo.network.
The short version
Host-Tools is built around a simple rule: the tools run in your browser. The text, JSON, keys or files you paste into a tool are processed on your own device and are never sent to us. We do not have accounts, and we do not ask you to sign in.
What is processed in your browser
Almost everything. Formatters, validators, converters, generators, encoders and the diff tool all run locally using your browser's own APIs. Nothing is uploaded, and no copy is stored on any server.
What is not processed in your browser
- Website Status. To check whether a site is reachable we have to make the request from our own infrastructure, because a browser cannot do it across origins. In that case the URL you enter is sent to our server and used only to perform that check.
- Advertising. If display advertising is active, ads are served by Google (AdSense) and the ad technology runs in your browser under Google's own privacy terms.
- Analytics. If analytics is active we use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to count visits and see which tools get used. It records that a page was opened and never what you put into a tool, and it is switched on only if you allow it in the consent message. See the Cookies policy.
- Supporting the project. If you choose to support Host-Tools, the payment is handled entirely by Ko-fi, which collects what it needs to process it under its own privacy policy. We never see your card or bank details. When Ko-fi tells us that a payment has gone through, its notification includes the amount, the currency, the name and message the supporter chose to send, the support code, and the supporter's email address. We store the payment details and the message as a record of the contribution, but the email address is not stored, not logged and not used: it is discarded as soon as the notification has been processed. We never link any of it to how you use the tools. That is why the unlock lives in your own browser and not in an account here.
Cookies and local storage
The tool pages do not set cookies to work. If you support the project we store a small flag in
your browser's localStorage so we know you should not see ads; that flag stays on
your device and we never see it. Analytics and advertising cookies are set only if you allow
them, and are described in the Cookies policy.
The tools that run entirely in your browser also keep a local count of how many times you have used them today, so the free daily allowance works. That count stays on your device as well.
The one tool that needs our server — the website checker — is counted on our side instead. To do that we keep, for about a day, a counter identified by a keyed hash of the connection's IP address rather than the address in clear. We use it for nothing else, and it exists so that a limit everyone shares cannot depend on what each browser chooses to report.
Analytics
When analytics is active we use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to know how many people use each tool and which pages are read. It is what tells us where to spend the effort. It never sees the content you put into a tool: that runs in your browser and is not sent anywhere.
Analytics is subject to the same consent as advertising. Until you allow it, nothing is measured with cookies. See the Cookies policy for the details.
Advertising
When advertising is enabled we use Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Consent for that is requested through the consent message you see on your first visit. See also the Advertising & affiliation page.
Server logs
Our web server records standard technical information (IP address, requested URL, user agent, timestamp) to keep the service running and to detect abuse. We do not use it to build profiles.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to processing or withdraw consent. Because the tools do not collect your content, in most cases we simply hold nothing about you. To exercise a right, write to info@mendo.network.
Applicable law
This policy is governed by the laws applicable to Mendo Network.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. Substantial changes will be announced on the site.
